AWN and the AEIOU Foundation
Some children see the world differently.
Autism is a lifelong disorder characterised by having difficulties in social interaction and relationships, communication and language, and repetitive behaviour and routines. The cause of autism is unknown and while there is no cure, research shows how early intervention makes a difference. It significantly improves the chances of a child learning new skills and adapting to their environment.
AEIOU foundation is a not-for-profit organisation. Queensland’s new Gold Coast centre at Carrara opened November 2010 and has 12 children in its care. It is the only full time early intervention and learning program for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) 2.5 to 5 years of age on the Gold Coast.
Each group of children are supported full time by skilled facilitators and staff from speech pathology, occupational therapy, child psychology and early childhood teaching. These programs are individually tailored and highly effective, however they are expensive to provide.
Australian Warranty Network was informed that the new centre desperately needed an interactive whiteboard. This whiteboard will be used to encourage children’s communication skills, developing peer interaction, promote academic and self-help skills and reduce challenging behaviours. The Interactive Whiteboard costs $4050.00.
AWN and Roxanne and Damian Chadwick from AWN donated $2000.00 towards this very worthy cause.
On Saturday 30th April, Roxanne Chadwick from AWN and AEIOU staff members attended the Links Golf Club where they held a 'charity hole'. The multiple items donated by AWN’s director, in conjunction with raffled items donated by Champions Hair Salon, Sanctuary Cove, raised an additional $1650.00 to go towards the purchase of the interactive whiteboard.
If you wish to assist AEIOU you can donate direct to the AEIOU foundation, any amount is appreciated. aeiou.org.au
